The Office: Goodbye, Toby

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 16, 2008

The Office(S04E14) So here we are, for what will already be the season finale of The Office. And, much like its first episodes, this is a special one : it goes on for a full hour. Of course I’m sure many of you have the same bad memories of the hour-long episodes, but they were not all bad, the last one of them was actually pretty good, and this being the season finale pretty much guarantees - I would imagine - that this one will be awesome as well.

Like everybody else I had many questions about what would happen, and one big wish : that everything stays within the office. I tend to like it better when the show stays there. Other than that, I have faith. The only thing I knew was the episode’s title, and I have to say I’m sad to see Toby go, if he really goes, because he was always such a fun character. Not “fun” per-se, but he’s always miserable and his relationship with Michael with really something to enjoy, at least if you’re not Toby.

Tonight On TV

* Tonight, a part of television will die. Or, many shows are having their season finales…

* We start at 8.00 with a new Ugly Betty on ABC. Just a new one, not yet the last one.

* On NBC we have My Name Is Earl, it’s a special one-hour long episode, and it is the season finale ! Will Earl get ride of Billie, after having married her last week or so?

* And on The CW we have the season finale of Smallville

* Then at 9.00 on ABC it’s a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Again, no finale there, it’ll be next week for two hours!

* On CBS though it’s time to say goodbye to this season of CSI

* And on NBC it’s the second sitcom of the night, and just like for it’s lead-in, it’s one hour of The Office for a big season finale ! Proposal, or not?

* Meanwhile on The CW I would imagine it’s the big fight, as Supernatural have their season finale as well. The question being : will Dean die ?

* Then at 10.00 on ABC, it’s a season finale, but it’s not the last episode of Lost this season. Tonight is the first part only. The season finale is a three-hour piece, and the next two episodes will air back to back in two weeks (yep, no Lost next week).

* On CBS it’s a season finale for Without A Trace as well

* While on NBC it is, yes, you guessed it, the season finale of E.R. !

Wednesday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

NumbersJust another Wednesday in the land of television. Last night American Idol was on, Fox was a clear winner both in viewers as well as on the demo. CBS was a good second, while others were not performing as well (though not doing too bad on the demo). Yeah, what else is new?

At 8.00 the most-watched program was Deal Or No Deal on NBC, with 7.7 million viewers. It doesn’t look good, yet it’s 100 000 more viewers than last week. After that the most interesting thing is probably that Back To You had 1.1 million more viewers at 8.30 than lead-in Til Death half an hour before, and it performed better on the demo as well (2.5 vs 2.2) Yet, the former has been canceled while the later will come back next season…

Fox Schedule for 2009

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

The new schedule for Fox is now official, and there’s not much to say : canceling everything new but Terminator, their additions are for the most part the two most-awaited (sci-fi) series of the season, JJ Abrams’ Fringe, and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse - the later being reserved for mid-season.

Being Fox, they don’t really care about the shows or giving an opportunity for viewers to easily remember when they are or create some nice pairs, shows keep moving all over the place between fall and winter schedule, and I’m not sure there’s really any logic there.

Full schedule, recap and reactions after the jump!

24 to return this November, sort of

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

24As any fans of action-packed hit-drama 24 knows, after the worst season in the history of the season, we went one year without hearing from Jack Bauer. Some say he’s been too ashamed, hiding in bars getting drunk trying to forget about last season, other blame the writers’ strike.

Either way, our good old hero isn’t coming back on Fox before 2009… or is he? As they had announced, Fox will air a two-hour prequel to the seventh season, and you can now mark your calendar : it will be on Sunday, November 23 at 8.00

Previews of new series to come

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

UnknownWe are right in the middle of the upfronts, and it’s a time when we have to see series go, sadly, but also when we get to be all excited about the new ones to come. Or, hopefully, we can find a few things to be really excited about, because it’s not always good. As new series are being announced, we also start to have promo clips, so let’s take a look at what we got so far.

I have to say that the two shows I’m most excited about so far are still the sci-fi shows coming on Fox, Fringe from JJ Abrams and Dollhouse from Joss Whedon. Those two look pretty cool, I can’t wait for them to show up. Sadly not much for those, but I’m not really sure I’d want to watch anything before I can watch the entire thing anyway…

Still, a few clips are here, so let’s have a look, shall we?

Criminal Minds: Tabula Rasa

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

Criminal Minds(S03E19) After the strike, we’ve had to suffer through some pretty bad episodes, let’s face it. The past couple of weeks, things have gotten better and the latest episodes, while not great, weren’t bad either. There were good episodes, nothing extraordinary or really great, but at least it was good and after a few weeks in the dark that was a nice return to the usual standard for the show.

Still, as we’re now already approaching the end of the season, the finale being next week, it wouldn’t be too much to ask for more than that, for something better. I know I was hoping for such an improvement, and this is why I couldn’t have been happier watching this episode : finally an episode that wasn’t just good, but was actually really good.

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence blasts NBC, talks future at ABC

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | May 15, 2008

ScrubsThere’s this thing about NBC, they have some really good great shows, they really do - it was the home of The West Wing, today they have Life or The Office (and more!), and not so long ago they still had Scrubs - but the thing is, they’re a bunch of retarded morons.

I mean seriously, they have all those great shows, shows that are truly great - hence why millions of fans are in love with them, and yet at the same time NBC execs can’t help but being idiotic, act like stupid [censored] and have no respect whatsoever for the people working on those shows, and as such earning them millions of dollars, or the people watching the shows, who as such are also responsible for those millions of dollars coming in.

They just don’t care, it makes you want to murder some people. And when you’ll read this interview of Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, you will need some self-control not to scream at those Zucker, Silverman and all the bunch…
