The fourth season of Lost ended last night, and it did end with a big answer to a question fans had been torturing about for some time now. Of course, I don’t think I should let you know what that was if you still haven’t watched the season finale, but the question was “what is the smoke monster?”
And to answer that question, it seems the busy creative minds of Lost actually came up with not one, not two, but three different answers! No less. And they even shot that last scene many times, so they had three possible ending in the end. Curious about the other endings they had in store ? It’s after the jump.
So one of the things I was a little “disappointed” not to find out during last night season’s finale of Lost, namely the names and reasons why the decided to pretend that three other people somehow survived the crash, only to die before they could get rescued, did find an answer in the rerun of the first part.
Along with the usual tidbits of information popping up on the screen all along, what ABC aired was actually a slightly different version of the episode, featuring an extended version of the famous Oceanic 6 Press Conference. A longer version during which, obviously, the question about who those three people came up, question to which Jack answered, and you can hear his response n the video below :
No surprises when it comes to last night, the very last night with something that wasn’t reality, a game or a rerun on. ABC won the night, both in total viewers as well as on the demo. Lost averaged 12.2 million viewers from 9.00 to 11.00, while nothing else could reach 10 million viewers.
6.8 million fans were already watching ABC at 8.00 for an extended run of the first part of this excellent season finale, before heading into the first hour of new material. At 9.00 they were 11.9 million watching, and one hour later during the very last hour of this fantastic fourth season of Lost, ABC had 12.5 million viewers and scored a nice 5.2 on the demo.
(S04E13-E14) This show is so fucking awesome! Alright, so here I am, after having finally watched those two last hours that concluded this fourth season of Lost, and I think there’s only one obvious conclusion to which any one of us will come now : this show is so fucking awesome.
I’ll be honest, I don’t think this was a mind-blowing episode. In fact, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t, because there was no real mind-blowing moments, moments during which you would not believe what just happened, not quite get what just happened, moments that would bring the show into a brand new light, moments that would change everything we’ve come to know about the show so far, moments during which the rules would be changed, moments that would literally blow your minds and have your jaw dropped to the floor…
But that’s completely okay. It really is, it’s more than okay, because those episodes were everything they were supposed to be, they were everything they could be, and what that is is some freaking awesome episodes, and a great season finale to the best season of Lost so far, nothing less.
While waiting for the season finale later tonight (I can’t wait!!), here’s a pretty hilarious video about Lost, and also Indiana Jones for some reason. This is the latest creation from Benny & Rafi Fine from RavenStake, and as usual it’s really great, filled with “inside jokes” for Lost fans, or Indy fans for that matter, and it is pretty damn hilarious!
And who knows, perhaps Indiana Jones can tell us what the smoke monster is…
So, do you feel it ? I’m sure it’s not just me… This thing is in the air, you can tell. It’s an odd feeling that something is about to happen. It’s not a warmth, it’s not a sound or a noise, nothing you can see or smell, it’s hard to explain, you just feel it, like the calm before the storm : Something is about to happen.
You might not know what it is, you might not even know whether it’ll be good or not. In fact, chances are it won’t be good, it won’t be for the best, but it’s definitely going to happen.
It’s in the air and you can feel it too. It is here, it will happen, you know it as well as I do, and as terrible as it may turn out to be, you just know it will happen, you can sense it’s going to be huge, and there is simply no way you would miss this. You don’t want to miss it, you can’t miss it, you won’t miss it.
There’s this thing in their air people, and I’m sure you feel it too. This thing that says : Tonight, we move an Island…
In TV land, whenever a network as a hit, others try to copy it. In fact, you don’t even have to look away at what other networks do, networks will try to duplicate their own hits over & over again themselves. Ain’t that right, CSI: SVU.
But recently, it seems everyone is going after one thing at the same time. There’s no hit already done, but everyone wants to do their series about a women’s prison. Latest in date comes from Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Til Dawn) who has been reporting shopping around with an idea for a new series described as a violent drama set in, you guessed it, a women’s prison, and said to be fashioned with a 1970’s exploitation sensibility.
So yes, you can expect some mud wrestling from Women In Chains!
You’ve probably heard about Dollhouse, the new show coming from the mind of Joss Whedon, creator of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Firefly, re-uniting him with ex-slayer Eliza Dushku. It’s one of the new shows Fox will add to their schedule next season, and by next season I mean mid-season, as the show isn’t set to premiere before 2009 !
Still, it looks like it might be a pretty good show (find a preview of Dollhouse here), and I haven’t hidden the fact that of all the new series to come next seasons, the two ones I’m most interested in were Fringe, and - indeed - Dollhouse.
And already some are worried about the show’s fate, because it’s a new series on Fox, because it’s sci-fi, on Fox ! Did I mention we’re talking about Fox ?? Clearly, that network has an history of pretty quick cancellation, and of great shows, and many remember what happened to Firefly, and they don’t want to see it happen again.
Which is why some people are willing to work on that. And while some might already be mocking them, I think this is actually a pretty good idea !
As you probably heard, The CW recently gave up on Sunday nights, and simply sold it away. Starting next season, Media Rights Capital will be in charge of programming the shows and selling the advertising for the CW Sunday nights. And MRC announced a part of “their” upcoming schedule, which goes as follow :
6.30 - In Harm’s Way – A reality show that looks at lives of people doing dangerous jobs. Executive Producer is Craig Piligian (Dirty Jobs, American Chopper, Survivor).
7.30 - Surviving Suburbia – Half-hour comedy about a family and their new neighbors. Kevin Abbott is Executive Producer (Roseanne, Grace Under Fire, Reba, My Name Is Earl).
8.00 - Valentine, Inc. – One-hour dramedy about an agency that finds lost loves, true loves and mends broken hearts. Kevin Murphy is Executive Producer (Reaper, Desperate Housewives).
9.00 - Easy Money – One-hour drama about a family that runs a high-interest loan business. Executive Producers are Andy Schneider and Diane Frolov (Northern Exposure, The Chris Isaak Show, The Sopranos).
Okay so while none of it sounds really amazing, I mean Surviving Suburbia sounds like a “perfect match”, as it seems exactly to fall on The CW line of shows : Gossip Girl, Surviving The Filthy Rich, 90210… And with Valentine, Inc. (adapted from an original movie script for a romantic comedy) they are after the same demo, young females.
Recently I went over the shows that will be returning this summer, but one thing very obvious about that list was all those that were missing. Not that summer is usually a time a crowed as fall on TV land, but more than one name was missing.
Why? Because due to many things, mostly the writers’ strike though, quite a lot of shows will not be returning before September, while others won’t be seen before 2009 ! And, some might not even return at all… So if you were wondering about where the Entourage, Californication, The Shield and other Rescue Me (amongst others) were gone, here’s your chance to find out. Though again, you will have to go through summer without them.
