Lost: Why it’s NOT a time loop…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 30, 2008

LostAhh… Lost, its mysteries, and our theories. Our billions of theories. A little while back, I too used to have theories about the show, and what the Hell was going on there. But quite frankly, I don’t anymore. I don’t, because after my latest theory got proven wrong I was simply unable to find one that would entirely please me.

I never stopped trying, thinking about the show and the how’s and why’s, about what could possibly explain things. And, sure, I still have, on some points, my beliefs of what may or may not be going on, what may or may not be causing whatever is happening, but I don’t have an overall theory, because every time I tried to think of one, it either got proven wrong, or didn’t work, or very simply wasn’t good enough.

But instead of trying to explain what’s happening on the show, instead of once again going over the last season(s) and wondering about the future, I want to do something a little different. The future is near, it’s getting closer every day and there will be plenty to say once we’ll be there, I’m sure.

But today, I want to talk about one of those theory that I’ve had, and that I’m sure billions of you have had as well, and I want to talk about why it’s not good for Lost.

Eli Stone proves that pediatricians should all be forbidden to practice medicine because they are stupid !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 30, 2008

Eli StoneEli Stone is a lawyer. No, not really, Eli Stone is actually a fictional character from ABC new series which goes by the same name, Eli Stone. The series will premiere this Thursday at 10.00, and the nation’s largest pediatricians’ group is trynig to “prevent” this from happening.

According to CNN, they said that ABC should do no less than cancel the first episode because it “perpetuates the myth that vaccines can cause autism“, according to the obviously not so smart Dr. Renee R. Jenkins, president of the influential American Academy of Pediatrics.

Let’s see what we’re talking about here shall we : But wait, in order to go over what actually happens during the episode that caused all this, I must warn you that spoiler will be mentioned. If you intend to watch the show, and maybe you should because it’s not bad, you might want to bookmark this for later, because it may spoil the fun.

Monday’s Numbers

Last night was very special, because from 8.00 to 10.30 all ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC aired the State of the Union Address, which do not have commercials and so is not rated.

So the night was pretty much reduced to one time slot, 8.00 And the winner was… a rerun! Two And A Half Men put CBS on top with 9.7 million viewers. On Fox was a rerun of Terminator, which didn’t do too bad : 6 million viewers for a rerun of a (serialized) show that aired days ago. The CW had their Gossip Girl Revealed, which did pretty good considering it was mostly a rerun, and still ended with over 2 million viewers.

In Treatment: Laura - Week One

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 29, 2008

In Treatment(S01E01) So last night was the premiere of HBO new drama, In Treatment. And it’s not a show like any other, starting with the way it airs : you got five half-hour episode a week. Monday to Thursday Paul Weston, the therapist, he has appointment with a different patient, and on Friday he switches roles and becomes the patient as he go see his own therapist.

Okay so before going any further I have to make this little completely unrelated side note, but every time I see that word, therapist, I can’t help myself but remember that Jeopardy bit on SNL, where “Sean Connery” would ask for a question from category “the rapist”. I know it’s silly but that had me laughing so hard, and I’ve obviously been traumatized because now that’s what I always see. Sometimes I actually read it as two words, and it makes me laugh.

Okay sorry, back on the show, and today’s session.

Tonight On TV

* This time even more than ever, there is literally nothing on TV. “Literally, literally, literally, literally.”

* If you don’t care about that “State of the Union Address”, at 8.00 The CW has its Gossip Girl Revealed, which will mainly be a rerun of the pilot…

* But at 9.30 maybe you’ll be in the mood for a new appointment with your therapist. Well, not yours actually, but the one from HBO’s new series In Treatment. It’s a half-hour drama, it airs five days a week, and it looks very very drama, but hey it’s new and it’s HBO, so who knows maybe it’ll be good.

The idea of the show is to look for what goes on in a therapist’s head, as we’ll follow Paul Weston, therapist, go through his week. Each day from Monday to Thursday we will see him with one of his patient, before concluding Friday in the office of Paul’s own therapist. For a preview, the trailer is right below, for more, tune in on HBO tonight at 9.30 :

Sunday’s Numbers

CBS came first in total viewers lats night, thanks to their movie The Russel Girl (12.7 million), but ABC rules the 18-49 demo with their crap.

At 8.00 Shark didn’t suffer much from its special timeslot, and a little more than 11 million people were watching the show probably for the last time this season. Sure, the show has done better, but the last episode also didn’t make it to 10 million so there’s that. Meanwhile the new episode of The Simpsons scored a pretty low 7.6 million viewers, which is a season low as well as pretty much what the rerun coming after did. Either that rerun was of a very special episode, or most Simpsons’ fans weren’t really aware that a new episode was on last night.

NYPD Blue: $1.4 million for a naked butt

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | January 28, 2008

Charlotte RossSeriously people, this would be funny if it wasn’t actually real and if those people weren’t dead serious. Morons over at the FCC, which I’m sure are getting paid actual with actual money to get up with shit like that, have levied a $1.4 million fine against 52 ABC stations for an episode of NYPD Blue that aired back in 2003.

I don’t even know where to start here, what’s the most stupidest thing ever ? Is it that this aired five years ago and they never did anything until recently which tend to indicate no one actually cared about this scene ? Is it that they asked for that ridiculous amount of money for nothing but a butt ? Or that I’m sure people would actually pay to get to see an extended shot of Charlotte Ross’s bare butt.

Here’s the video of the scene :
