Friday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 22, 2007

Friday was a night it seemed barely anyone was watching, numbers were pretty low… and overall ABC came first in total viewers, and NBC came first one the 18-49 demo.

But the big news came from The CW, which - thanks to low numbers and an always strong performer in Friday Night Smackdown! - came second on the 18-49 demo and third on total viewers !

Nothing much else to say, not that I care to comment at least. But as always, all numbers of the night in a nice chart right below :

Don’t set your DVR yet, it will change !

I’ve been busy on other things, and so I didn’t really keep up with all the recent changes of schedule that took place during the past few hours days. But apparently, with the strike going on all networks are changing dates and adjusting their schedules all the time. Partly, they do so after learning the competition’s schedules, which then adjust as well, and so on over & over, and I guess partly they’re also trying to confuse people.

My guess is, they announce new episodes but air reruns, or change dates, thinking that people will tune in by fear of missing something. Which is a retarded idea, because many are already pissed, and adding the Holidays on top of that, many new episodes have already not performed as well as they usually go, and everyone knows they’ll probably repeat, given, you know, that they don’t have anything else to air anyways.

Anyways… let’s try to see where we are at the moment, shall we?

Independent Spirit Awards will have writers, and Rainn Wilson !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 21, 2007

Rainn WilsonThis time a year, awards ceremonies are pouring on TV, or they usually are at least. But with writers on strike and celebrities refusing to cross picket lines, things get troubled. When they’re not canceled, shows just turn boring.

One of them, could potentially become a much stronger hit than usual or than any others out there : the Independent Spirit Awards. Why, you ask ? But because this year they’ll have the one and only Dwight Rainn Wilson hosting, I reply !

Thursday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 21, 2007

I’m not sure if there’s anything to talk about last night. I mean, there was nothing new - or worth watching - on. Which probably explains why CBS easily won the night both on total viewers and on the 18-49 demo. Not only that, but each and everyone of CBS’ repeats did came first on viewers as well as on the 18-49 demo on their respective time slot.

Numbers are far from being as good as with fresh scripted content, but if CBS or Fox are holding on, ABC on the other hand is in deep trouble. And Lost is still far away, and will only air once a week. Really, here’s a priceless tip for people over at ABC : cut the crap, go talk with the WGA and negotiate yourself a deal. We would all benefit from such a thing : writers would go back to work, and get paid; we would have our great series back on the air; you’d get fantastic rantings. It’s a freaking win-win-win thing, just go negotiate FFS!

Anyways, as usual all numbers of the night are found in a nice chart below :

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to cross picket lines as well !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 21, 2007

Jon Stewart and Stephen ColbertAs unfortunate as this news is, it was doomed to happen. After Carson Daly a little while ago - no I don’t feel like mentioning Ellen, I mean she had her show went dark for that, 4 minutes? - then the announcement that both Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien would return on January 2nd, followed recently by Jimmy Kimmel to return the same day, and with Letterman still working with the WGA to return in early January as well, Comedy Central’s late night talk were the only ones not to return.

And this changed, as it was announced by Comedy Central that both The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report will return with new episodes starting January 7 :

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report will resume production on January 7 with both shows returning to air that night without their respective writing staffs. The January 7 return follows a scheduled two-week, end-of-year hiatus that was previously built into the shows’ production calendars. We continue to hold out hope for a swift resolution to the current stalemate that will enable the shows to be complete again.

USA full of crap…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 20, 2007

USASo after we learned the The 4400 was canceled, along with another series on USA, Dead Zone, Jeff Wachtel, USA network programming chief, had this to say : “We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it’s with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable.

Yeah, right.

That’s absolute BS, and the way I see it it’s a sign of total disrespect towards the series, their fans and the people working on them. I mean you cannot say those were great series that did do good, and then just cancel them like that.

Wednesday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 20, 2007

After announcing and promoting fresh episodes, CBS went all reruns. Surely people got fooled by this, and since their dramas usually do well in rerun mode, this night was no different and they took the night both in total viewers and on the 18-49 demo.

At 8.00 I sad to see NBC coming first, but really I couldn’t expect repeats of a crap like Back To You to come in first…

Moving on. While a repeat, Criminal Minds did pretty well coming winning its slot with 11.6 million viewers, that is better than its last repeat two weeks ago (9.4 million), but of course it then had Deal Or No Deal and a new Private Practice to compete against. This time, it was Clash Of The Choirs - doing not as good - and Private Practice was a repeat, and repeats and ABC don’t go together well.

People’s Choice Awards made strikeproof ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 20, 2007

PCAAt first, the rumor was that the People’s Choice Awards were simple canceled this year, CBS was not going to broadcast a show were most celebrities were likely to not show up (read: would refuse to cross picket lines). Thinking about simply canceling a show that usually does pretty good, network executives weren’t too happy, obviously.

But don’t worry, because they have an idea !

Forget the strike, this has nothing to do about a strike or some writers or anything, things will go as planned, but they just had an idea for a new format : magazine format !
