Lost Season 4 Premiere has a date !

By fred | December 15, 2007

After much delay the suspense is finally over, as ABC revealed their strike-schedule for next year. Now I’m sure there were things other than Lost mentioned on that thing, but let’s be honest here : who cares ?

LostRight, so with that plus the fact that I’m tired and should go to sleep, allow me to only focus on Lost for now. The fact ABC would indeed go with it and air a butchered season of their hit-drama was no surprise at this point, but what was killing us was to know when it would actually happen, and rumors were strong that the show would also change its timeslot.

It was all confirmed tody as ABC announced that the season 4 of Lost would premiere on Thursday, January 31st at 9.00 ! That’s right, you read that correctly, the show will move into Grey’s Anatomy slot and air on Thursdays at 9.00 from now on. Now I won’t lie to you, when I read this I was shocked.

Not shocked that the show was to air, or that it moved to Thursdays. No what shocked me was the date the season would premiere…

You see, as I understand things should there not have been a strike, the season was not expected to be back before February, and now - due to the writers’ strike - it will actually premiere in January ! Granted, the very last day of the month, but that’s still January nevertheless.

And what shocked me was that I would not have thought that the strike would actually get us to see the new season sooner than we would have normally. Now I have decided to be highly optimistic in the way I see things, because I need to think that way for the sake of my mental health. So bare with me :

One could have assumed that with a strike going on, ABC would have done the opposite and had the season of their mega-hit to come back a little later than originally planned if anything, let’s say that instead of premiering on February 7th, it would have been on February 20th. Of course, the problem for ABC was to survive until that date. It’s no secret that they don’t have much in the can, and that their series do not repeat too well, unlike others like CBS.

So they main goal was to try and plan how long the strike was go on for, and act accordingly. Of course people would be here for Lost, even if it started later, even those who didn’t want only half a season, like me, would be there. Yes I’ll be there, cause it’s Lost, and you do not, you cannot turn your back on Lost. Simple as that.

Obviously, they tried to adjust things and have Lost help them go through those tough times, but as I said I want to see everything in bright beautiful color, I want everything to make me happy, even the bad stuff, SeinfeldVision! So I want to think that if they had Lost to premiere “that soon”, it was because they are confident that the strike was come to a resolution soon. Maybe even around Christmas. That would mean people would be going back to work January next year, and a few weeks after that schedules could be filled with fresh new episodes again.

And I want to believe that ABC wanted to make sure that Lost would be back before this could happen, that maybe they needed to ensure that the show would be back and dominate its timeslot (long) before the competition could come back, in order to have its audience used to it and dedicating that slot to the show, while the competition would have to go and sit on the DVR at best. Besides, in such a scenario that would still give about a couple of months for the team behind the Island to work on those eight remaining episodes and bring us a full, 16 episodes long season…

Now how does that sound ? Pretty cool, no ? Okay, so who’s buying it ? Cause I don’t think I am… I think I need to sleep now. But let’s all mark our calendars : Thursdays at 9.00, starting January 31st, it’s Lost time, baby!
