New Series Of 2007 : The good, the bad, and the ugly…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 31, 2007

As the year 2007 goes, everyone is making their list of best and worst of the year. Given how I don’t really like such list, especially because it means going over two half-seasons of TV with series we haven’t seen in quite a while (Lost) and new ones we’re crazy about (Life), it’s just weird. That, plus I didn’t prepare anything throughout the year and didn’t feel like going over it all, yes I’m lazy.

Anyways, that’s not the point. The point is, I did not do a best/worst of list, instead I decided to simply go over all the new series of the season, all those I actually watched that is, to see how things went down.

Sunday’s Numbers

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 31, 2007

I really don’t know what to say… There was nothing on but Football basically, and with the year’s last edition of Sunday Night Football, NBC won the night both in total viewers and on the 18-49 demo. Yay. Meanwhile repeats didn’t do too bad on other networks, and ABC didn’t tank as much as it could have thanks to The Sound Of Music.

For more, see the chart below with all numbers of the night :

What’s up with Oceanic Airlines ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 31, 2007

OceanicI’m not sure what’s going on with Oceanic Airlines, the famous airline whose Flight 815 crashed on a mysterious island, leaving some survivors, or none, according to your sources.

A few days ago I reported about a new press release stating that the company was back in business ! It was a major event, as we all know the company cancel all its flights after the famous and mysterious crash. I also pointed out that the website - oceanic-air.com - was still announcing “All Flights Cancelled”

In fact, the new press release can be found at the new website - flyoceanicair.com - for Oceanic Airlines, but this time there no mention of the Flight 815 tragedy, unlike on the first website. Sure, they announce their “return to the airways“, but who knows…

NBC said Golden Globes will air

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 31, 2007

Golden GlobesThere were doubts and rumors as to whether or not the show would be telecast by NBC, or if the ceremony would even take place at all, because of the strike and the WGA’s logical refusal to grant the Hollywood Foreign Press Association a waiver. But NBC said Sunday that it would air the Golden Globes Awards as scheduled, regardless.

So the Golden Globes will take place January 13, despite the fact that writers will be picketing outside and, as a result, many celebrities are expected not to show up as they support writers and refuse to cross any picket lines. And there’s no question there will be picket lines, because WGA have already said the only reason they might not picket was if it was going to be a private event, without cameras.

Now I’m sure it will suck, but I’m also sure many people will tune in just to see who actually are the “traitors” crossing picket lines… Not to mention, what will Jon Stewart - the show’s host - do ? While the Globes aren’t like his show, where his staff could loose their jobs if he didn’t, he could very well do the same and show up after crossing picket lines anyways… I hope he won’t.

What do networks refuse to fill their schedule with during the strike ?

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 31, 2007

Because of the strike, networks are running out of fresh content to put on the air. Sure, some of them might still have a few episodes here and there, or even for the most lucky ones (half) a season waiting, but that’s far from enough to fill their schedule.

And while reruns, games and, of course, reality TV programs are invading each and every network like crazy, there is one other type of programs that networks could use to fill “in the holes”, but that they decided to completely ignore !

Tonight On TV: Still Nothing…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 30, 2007

Tonight On TV

* After a week with nothing really, we start a new week with, well nothing still. But some shows will resume this week; not much, but some will. Plus, a few late night shows (including Kimmel, Conan and Leno, without writers, and Letterman and Ferguson both with their writers) are scheduled to come back this week as well…

The Golden Globes May Not Be Televised…

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 29, 2007

Golden GlobesAs you probably know, the Golden Globes won’t have writers, as WGA denied their waiver. And it has also already been made clear that should the show go on, they would indeed picket which would result in pretty much all celebrities not to show up, as they are supporting the writers and refuse to cross any picket lines.

Oddly enough, Anne Thompson reports over on her blog that word from within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is that the ceremony could actually take place, but not be televised. She then goes on to explain that this would be a solution, because in such a case all major celebrities would be able to show up :

Letterman and WGA signed a deal !!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 28, 2007

David Letterman can be happy now...Alright, what was supposed to happened finally happened : David Letterman’s production company, Worldwide Pants, now has worked out a deal with the WGA, according to its new “divide and conquer” strategy, and as a result when both Letterman and Ferguson come back on the air January 2nd, like most other late night shows such as Leno’s and Conan’s will as well, only the formers will have WGA blessing, and writers !!

This is truly a great news, because as I’ve expressed in the past this can only help the WGA’s cause, and hopefully motivated others to break out from the AMPTP bullshit and go back to negotiate with the WGA directly.

Oceanic Airlines back in business !

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | December 28, 2007

OceanicIf you know what Oceanic Airlines is, you know why this is posted here. When their infamous Flight 815 crashed, the company went downhill and a lot of weird things started to happen. After the terrible crash, who may or may not had any survivors, the company stopped all activities.

But that’s apparently going to change, as they announced today their return to the airways, despite their website still announcing “all flights cancelled”. But beginning December 31, operations and flights to nine markets are announced to resume, “Taking You Places You Never Imagined“. Supported destinations are Los Angeles, Calif.; Tustin, Calif.; Ames, Iowa; Miami, Flo.; New York, NY; Portland, Ore.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Seoul, South Korea; and, of course, Sydney, Australia.
