NBC is desperate for new content : Quarterlife

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 19, 2007

QuarterlifeNBC just made a new deal to air in 2008 the new series from Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, Quarterlife. You’d think that’s a great news at first, given how those names can have you remember of series like the great My So-Called Life, but you’d be wrong. Oh so wrong.

The show is already available for free quarterlife.com, at least the first episodes, and I watched them. I did, and I understand why ABC rejected the project when it was first presented to them three years ago.

Sunday’s Numbers

ABC was airing the 2007 American Music Awards, so with their big hits such as Desperate Housewives out of the way, other networks could enjoy the night putting ABC on the fourth spot. CBS won the night in viewers, while Fox ruled on the 18-49 demo.

Fox’s comedy night is still doing as usual, with both The Simpsons and Family Guy having about 10 million viewers and a strong 5.3 and 5.4 on the 18-49 demo. CBS’ series grow their audience, Cold Case by about one million viewers and Shark by about 1.5 million viewers, hitting a series high since it’s been moved on that timeslot.

That said, while it came first at 10.00 in viewers it was dead last amongst adults 18-49, beaten by both ABC’s night and NBC’s football.

As usual, all numbers of the night in a nice chart :

Family Guy: Padre de Familia

Family Guy(S06E06) So this episode was a very “special” episode because as it turns out, there is a writers’ strike going on at the moment. Yeah, shocking, I know, but it’ll made the news at some point, I guess.

Anyways, creator Seth MacFarlane is striking and as such he could not finish working on this episode, polishing it and making sure everything was as he wanted it to be. And while he said Fox has the legal right to go and air the episode anyways, he also whished they would not do what he referred to as a “a colossal dick move“. But they did, obviously.

Supernatural: Fresh Blood

Supernatural(S03E07) The weekend might be officially over but my DVR Cleaning process is not, and the last show I finally got to watch is Supernatural. I had been waiting to get there, because this is a pretty good show and so far this season it’s been nothing but great fun.

Like many others I had my worries back then, especially when we heard about the two girls to be added to the cast, even if not as series regular, but it turned out to be quite good, on that subject like on others, and I think this season looks like it could be the best one of the show yet.

Tonight On TV: The Simpsons, unapproved Family Guy, Cold Case

Tonight On TV

* Tonight ABC has a special night, no Desperate Housewives or anything.

* At 8.00 there is a new episode of The Simpsons on Fox

* At 9.00 CBS has a new Cold Case

* While on Fox there is a new episode of Family Guy, and that’s a big deal because it is the first episode of the show that has NOT been finalized by creator Seth MacFarlane, who said that if the network was to go with it that way - something they never did in the past and he hoped they would not - it would affect their future relationship.

But you know, it’s not like the show has never been canceled before…

DVR Cleaning: Criminal Scrubs, My Name Is Samantha

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 18, 2007

As every weekend I have a pretty filled DVR, and I’m trying to watch as much as I can before going into a new week. After all a new week is about to begin, and except for The Office there are still new episodes coming in.

I’ve had a few problems this week with my computer amongst other things, and I still had to work on fixing it. Anyways, I’ve just watched a few shows and here we go with a great Criminal Minds, Scrubs, My Name Is Earl and the very last episode Samantha Who? as far as I’m concerned.

Reaper: The Cop

Reaper(S01E08) So I’ve said it before, this show is really fun. It always delivers a fun hour of entertainment, and I always enjoy watching it and laughing all along the way. So I was obviously really happy to finally get time to sit and watch a new hour of Sam and his gang doing the Devil’s work. It’s always a very fun hour to go through, and this time was no different, quite obviously.

From the very start I had nothing but love for this show, yet I kept on reading other people having a few problems or complaints about it, and I (almost) always disagreed. Just like there were comparison between Reaper and Chuck and people tended to favor Chuck more, while I obviously was rooting for the Devil’s team.

Life: Farthingale

Life(S01E08) So I’ve had a few problems this week, and I have a very full DVR at the moment, that I’m hoping to free as much as possible over the weekend. And of course of all the shows I had to watch first, before lats night’s shows or those I’ve been waiting for for a few days now, like Reaper, the very first one I had to watch had to be, quite obviously, Life.

It had to be this one, because I have always enjoyed each and every episode so far, and I’m convinced this is the best of all new series of this season, so I was glad to hear NBC was going to try and boost its audience, here’s to hoping that they will give this series a real fair chance, because it is a pretty great show and for what I’ve heard, all fans of the show really love it.

Friday’s Numbers

Once again CBS is the clear winner of the night, both in viewers and on the 18-49 demo.

Ghost Whisperer did a little less than last week, while Deal Or No Deal won over a million viewers, being a clear winner on its time slot, but Ghost Whisperer still comes first in the 18-49 demo.

The Next Great American Band is really not doing good, loosing viewers and again had Fox beaten by The CW and their Friday Night Smackdown! in both viewers and amongst 18-49 at 8.00

Women’s Murder Club might have won its slot again this week, but still lost about 700 000 viewers and got beaten by Moonlight - who also won a few viewers - on the 18-49 demo (2.7 vs 1.8)

Dirty Sexy Money gets full-season order!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 17, 2007

Despite some rumors that said Dirty Sexy Money was in trouble and that only 11 of the 13 ordered episodes would actually be done, the network kept things running and production of episode 12 is expected to start next Wednesday.

And now it’s official, ABC decided not to let the strike come in the way and picked up the series for a full-season order of 22 episodes ! As mentioned 13 episodes had been ordered so far, so ABC added the remaining 9.

Dirty Sexy Money comes after others series that already got picked up, like Samantha Who?, Private Practice, or Pushing Daisies. And with the hope that the strike could be resolved soon (now that negotiations will resume on November 26), there’s still hope for fans to get to see all of the 22 episodes this season, which would really be the best for every one.

Now if only other networks could start pick up some of their new series as well. Yes, NBC, I mean you, I mean you should pick up Life for a full season order already!
