Family Guy: Stewie Kills Lois - Part 1

Family Guy(S06E04) This is it… the 100th episode of a show once canceled by the network, yet another proof that those guys don’t have a clue of what good television is. This is a “special” episode, at least we all expect it to be I think, and it has been made to be one. It even comes with another special “episode” right before it, in order to celebrate the occasion !

I like Family Guy, and I think so far this season we’ve had ups and downs, despite this only being the fourth episode. We started with a great Star Wars parody, then a lame and already forgotten episode, and last time we had a pretty good episode. And now, the 100th episode !

The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XVIII

The Simpsons(S19E05) This was the awaited Halloween-special episode from our beloved Simpsons family, and because in the past such specials have regularly been quite hilarious, as well as a little scary on the side, I was really waiting for this one. Many people have complained over the years that this show wasn’t as good or funny as it used to be, but while I agree it had some pretty lame/weak episodes from time to time, which can happen to any show (Hell even South Park had some of those…) I used to think quality was still there, not always, but still.

Yet to be honest, I’ve been disappointed by this season, and on what may be a unrelated note, the movie was good and funny, but not great and hilarious. Not that those shows should be compared, but South Park had a movie once, and it was freaking awesome, it left you wanting to go back again, and again, and again… Just like (almost) every episode.

Anyways, despite all this, the “Treehouse of Horror” are usually quite funny, and have their own ways of being done & existing, so chances are it would be great despite what you think of the show, or this season.

DVR Cleaning: Criminal Reaper, My Name Is Scrubs

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 4, 2007

You know the drill, every weekend I try to watch all that I couldn’t during the week. Yes, it’s true, I can’t watch everything during the week, there’s just too much to go through. But I don’t complain, I love that, and my busy week end as well. I realize that this is due to the strike, because if a deal had been worked out months ago networks would have had canceled quite a few of their new series already !

I guess we can thank the strike for helping networks giving more of a real chance to many shows, now let’s hope it doesn’t last too long so that it doesn’t end up hurting those very same shows, as well as others, in the end. Let’s all pray that the strike ends quick, I mean 4 weeks top would be the best. After that, things might get ugly…

But for now, here we go with new episodes of Reaper, Criminal Minds, My Name Is Earl and Scrubs.

Writers Strike Seen By Jon Stewart

I have already talked about the strike, and what it was about. Well, here’s an even shorter sumup of the whole thing, what writers want and what the networks reply, and how it all comes to. In a pure Daily Show tradition, this is right on & dead funny.

By the way, the strike is here, and obviously all those comedy talk shows who rely on their writers for their content every day, based on daily news & events and that, as such, can’ be written in advance, well all those shows we go into repeats starting Monday : Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, as well as SNL.

Supernatural: Bedtime Stories

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 3, 2007

Supernatural(S03E05) There are some series out there that do pretty well in ratings and are watched by millions every week, despite the fact that they quite frankly suck. No, I won’t mention any name, because those shows don’t deserve to be mention. Those that do are the ones that are really great ones, ones that keeps delivering awesome episode one after the other each week, and yet for some reason do not get the recognition they deserve.

And Supernatural falls into that last category, it seems. It doesn’t do bad, bur it doesn’t do that great either, and every year there’s threat that the current season might be the last. This is a real shame, for both the shows and their fans, because it truly is a great series, and also for all those missing out on it, because I guarantee you you’d have a much better time each week watching this show, than any episode of Chuck.

The Office: Branch Wars

The Office(S04E06) Aren’t we all glad that this show is finally back to its true form, and funny again. Well, not that it wasn’t funny when it lasted twice as long, but it just as Hell didn’t left us with that same feeling after wards.

I think everyone agrees that while hour-long episodes were around, except maybe for the last one that felt like a real, full episode of The Office that happened to last one hour; all others were dragged for too long, things were forced and resorted to some ludicrous plots, and in the end didn’t really left us wanting for more, but (almost) glad it was over.

But those days are back, the show is back to its original format, half-hour long episode, and that’s great.

Heroes canceled !!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 2, 2007

Let’s face it guys, they were so sure they had the greatest hit of all time they want on a bug world tour to promote the show, and that was only after its very first season. Then they kept hiring new (known) actors to create even more buzz about the show, so much that in the end they completely forgot one thing : to write good scripts !! (And to keep a bit of money for special effects, too).

And now NBC might have no other choice than to face the reality : this season sucks, and the ratings are dropping. So the logical next step is to cancel the show.

Life: Powerless

Life(S01E06) I think this is the best new series of the season, and without question the one I enjoy and am looking forward to the most. I really hope NBC will give it a real chance, and that despite the WGA strike this one will get picked up and be able to find its audience.

Because obviously there’s one, and it seems that most of those who watch the show really appreciate how good it is and are quick to put Life on their favorite TV series top 5, if not on top of it. As I said, I myself wouldn’t call it the best series of the season, I do love House better than any other series, but it is the best of all new series for sure.

Heroes: Origins already canceled!

AddThis Social Bookmark ButtonBy fred | November 2, 2007

NBC hasn’t officially canceled the spin-off series, intended to air during Heroes hiatus, but producers have given no indication that it might find its way back on the air. The decision to pull the plug, according to NBC, was made due to the WGA strike. But I wonder…

The idea for Heroes: Origins was that because it’s “Heroes-like” people wouldn’t feel so bad about the hiatus. Bad idea already, IMO. Anyways, further than that each of the six episodes were to introduce a new Heroes, and after they all aired viewers would have to vote to choose which one would make it to the original show, Heroes, during it’s third season.

Now it could be the strike, but it might very well be a reaction to the poor season Heroes is having, the bad ratings it’s getting, and the fact that maybe a third season isn’t such a given anymore, or that bringing in new characters - again - might not appear as such a good idea after all…
