* So yeah, this Friday you’re allowed to have a life and go out, there’s nothing.
* Time to empty the DVR or get some DVDs out… Though I hear some people go crazy about FNL… and NBC still airs new episodes !

Shows: Friday Night Lights
By fred | November 30, 2007
Woopsie, too tired and (almost) forgot to report the numbers of yesterday !
So… Now that networks are done with November sweeps, reruns are kicking in everywhere, except for NBC. Sadly, it didn’t really help their comedy night, which even lost viewers compared to two weeks ago (last week nothing was on, due to Thanksgiving). Over the whole night, NBC lost 1.2 million viewers, and did less on the 18-49 demo as well, although it got the second spot on the night this time given how other networks performed even less good.
At 8.00 CBS’ Survivor was the clear winner of the slot, with almost 14 million viewers. Still, it lost close to a million viewers since two weeks ago. Ugly Betty was in rerun and as such was much less followed, letting Fox and its Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? come in second place.

Shows: 30 Rock, Big Shots, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs

Before writers went on strike, studios tried to have as many scripts written and episodes completed as they could, in prevision of such an event. And now that the strike is here, some are already kicking some reruns trying to keep new content available as long as they can. Of course this isn’t always possible, and some shows are already out “for good”, The Office comes to mind obviously.
Studios have tried to say they were not so worried, that they had a lot of reality crap in stock, and that they were ready for a long strike. Some exec even said that a strike could have some good, before it would allow them not to pay for all the pilots they usually invest in. But reality might be different.

As soon as the strike started, all late night show went off. Unlike scripted series late night shows are written day to day and obviously can’t have episodes made in advance, and reruns have been airing for the whole month of November now; resulting in networks having to give sponsors their money back one way or another, something they obviously don’t like to do.
Networks have been pressuring all their hosts to get back on the air, and so far no one caved (except for Ellen DeGeneres, who only took a little break before going back). The idea of having guest-host was even thrown around at NBC as a way to get their Tonight Show back on without Leno. In fact NBC’s high pressure succeeded as Carson Daly is said to go back to work soon.

(S02E07) So… there wasn’t much on this time, with the holidays coming and the strike going networks are trying to keep as many fresh content in the can as possible, which means a lot of shows switch to rerun mode. Thankfully tough, this wasn’t the case on NBC, and the comedy night was still fully on ! (Well, except for The Office of course, who’s sadly already out of new episodes.)
But we had a new episode of 30 Rock, and that was some great news because this show is the funniest sitcom on the air, I love it. I’ve read quite a few people mentioning how it was the “new” Arrested Development, in a way, and I have no take on that one because I honestly didn’t really watch that show.
Actually, I once watched a couple of episodes, but didn’t find it that good, or funny. Shocking to many, I’m sure, especially given how I love what seems to be, in fans’ hearts, its successor.

In Series: 30 Rock Season 2
By fred | November 29, 2007

* Wow, tonight sure as Hell doesn’t feel like a Thursday night. And not just because we wonder how Jim and Pam are being cute or what stupid thing Michael got himself in to, although yes The Office is missing and it sure sucks. But pretty much all shows are in reruns tonight, in fact, tonight is NBC night !
* Starting at 8.00, with a new episode of My Name Is Earl. He may still be behind bars, but at least he’s still around !
* At 8.30 it’s a delight to get a new episode of 30 Rock, funniest sitcom our there (true even counting The Office!)
* Little break at nine, we all have a thought or two for Sprinkles.
* At 9.30 the comedy is back with a new Scrubs before going to bed.

(S01E09) Should I mention again how I love this show – best new series of the season – and how glad I am NBC finally made their decision, and took the right one, picking up Life for one full season order ? Maybe not. So let’s move on directly into this episode. You know what, I think I need to say I really love that show, it’s just so good !
I really can’t recommend enough to anyone who thought this was only just another cop show (with a twist) to check it out, once again a brilliant episode, with a quality of writing like you don’t find everywhere else. This show is all about characters, well not “all” but mostly, and they are so incredibly well written it really feels like a blessing.
As illustrated this week, even second characters and those we’ll only meet once benefit from the same treatment of choice as Charlie does. It couldn’t be any better.

Shows: Life

Shrek did wonders for ABC, being the most watched show of the night and pulled some impressive numbers on the 18-49 demo (7.2), putting itself up there with the House and other Grey’s Anatomy. ABC wasn’t the most watched network of the night, CBS took the lead by not much, but it was a clear winner on the 18-49 demo.
At 8.00 Shrek The Halls was the most watched show, and The Grinch only lost two of the 21.1 million viewers in front of ABC. The only series to air so early was ‘Til Death and it did worked good for Fox, loosing 1.4 million viewers compared to two weeks ago, hitting a series low.

A few days ago I talked about the rumors that the show could be canceled, to end with how episode 12 – made to work as a series finale and fully produced – might not even be aired by NBC.
Fans decided to show their support for the show and to let NBC know how they loved it, and thanks to initiative such as SaveJourneyman.net series’ creator Kevin Falls recently told that NBC decided to air episode 12 after all !

(S01E08) This ongoing writers’ strike is really starting to bite us, or at least me. No, this wasn’t the last episode of Pushing Daisies we’ll see before that too long and indefinite hiatus due to the strike, ABC still has one more episode in store for us, but that’s just enough to have me realize how hard things are going to be. Because it’s not one show we’ll miss, it’s more or less all of them.
And I sure do love myself some pie, especially those made out of dead fruits. This was one again a very sweet and highly enjoyable hour of television, it’s no wonder why this show is getting so much love from so many viewers out there, that loves comes right from the show itself.
